140 Sperm are produced in males from the age of puberty to old age. They are produced in the testes which are kept cool outside the body. They are held in place by a layer of skin called the scrotum. The sperm are produced in millions in the testes. They move up the sperm duct (sperm tube) into the body, and pass glands which add liquids and nutrients. The sperm then become active, and are able to swim like tadpoles by flicking their tails from side to side. The sperm are stored in the body, and pass out of the body through the urethra, a tube which is also used to pass urine. The sperm and liquids are now called semen, and contracting muscles force the semen out of the body. This is called ejaculation and happens during sexual intercourse (mating).
