177 The embryo (tiny baby) will start to develop organs and an umbilical cord, joining the embryo to the mother. It will absorb all its food and oxygen from the mothers blood in the placenta, and it will lose carbon dioxide, excess water and urea to the mother's blood stream. When the embryo starts to look like a human it is called a foetus. It develops inside the uterus for 9 months. At the end of this time the muscles of the uterus (womb) start to contract regularly, forcing the foetus down towards the cervix. The cervix gradually opens up, and the baby is pushed into the vagina and then out. It will still be attached to its mother by the umbilical cord, and this has to be cut to separate mother and baby. The baby then takes its first breaths of air. It can no longer get its food through its mother's umbilical cord, but the mother starts to produce milk for the baby. This contains all the liquid and nutrients which the baby needs to grow. Drag the Tiles into position to put the segments of text into the correct order.
